Introduction to an Essay
An essay introduction should have: Topic Sentence (your hook) + your Thesis Statement (your 2-3 reasons for your opinion of your Topic Sentence)
All basic essays must include an Introduction + 2-3 Body Paragraphs + Conclusion (each Body Paragraph is a paragraph about one of your reasons in your Thesis Statement and it MUST BE M.E.A.L.). BE SURE TO FOLLOW THE ORDER THAT YOU CREATED IN YOUR THESIS STATEMENT!
Conclusion to your essay: repeat the Topic Sentence and Thesis Statement from your Introduction, BUT paraphrased. You are explaining to the reader what you said in your essay.
MEAL Paragraphs
Make sure you include your: Analysis = explain the meaning of your main idea.
+ Link = a conclusion that you must connect (link) back to the topic of the original article.
Everything you write in your essay must be DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO THE TOPIC OF THE ARTICLE.
BE SURE TO ANNOTATE BEFORE RESPONDING WITH YOUR SUMMARY AND ESSAY.
When you annotate, you are preparing and planning what you will say in your Summary and in your Response Essay to the topic.
The more you annotate, the better and better your response will be. Take your time and analyze everything well in the article!
